Reporting Back -- Living and reporting in Gaza
From asap -- The Associated Press
The Gaza Strip is the subject of regular and extensive news coverage: The border with Israel comes under attack. Palestinian infighting grows violent. Control of the territory shifts between the rival Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas.
It's certainly a unique spot on the globe for journalists, presenting its own set of challenges to those who come to this 28-mile-long strip of land to live their lives and report the news.

AP Gaza reporters SARAH EL DEEB and DIAA HADID know about this firsthand.

"There's never a dull moment in Gaza," El Deeb said when she and Hadid sat down with AP Deputy International Editor NICOLAS B. TATRO for a conversation about the territory, during the reporters' recent visit to AP headquarters in New York.

And for the reporters who cover it, the action in Gaza certainly isn't without its rewards.

"You're never out of curiosity for the place," El Deeb said.

To hear their conversation - covering topics like the harassment of women, attitudes toward reporters, visits to the beach and how to pick Hamas security forces out of a crowd - listen to this asap podcast. (A hint on that last one: Look for beards and big muscles.)
