FASHION WEEK -- Is it the shoes?
  -- The Associated Press
Almost every woman knows the shoes make the outfit.
But when it comes to Fashion Week, non-fashionistas rarely notice what's on the model's feet - unless she stumbles and falls.

Designers still put a lot of thought into the shoes, with some creating their own lines in the hopes of attracting a shoe buyer - a bonus.

Tracy Reese has her own line. So does Betsey Johnson. Laura Poretzky, the designer of Abaeté, has a line of shoes for Payless.

"For me, the clothing has always come first," says maternity designer Liz Lange, who also has a design partnership with Target. "I'm thinking about a mood even before I begin. To bring the mood together, certainly the accessories and particularly the shoes, and jewelry and hair and makeup - all complete that picture and really drive the mood and my inspiration home."
